Tanzania, the home to some of the world’s most spectacular national parks, Africa’s mightiest mountain Kilimanjaro and palm-fringed beaches of Zanzibar, is one of the absolute must-visit destinations for adventure-hungry travellers. Three unmissable highlights of holidaying in Tanzania Tanzania, the home to some of the world’s most spectacular national parks, Africa’s mightiest mountain Kilimanjaro and palm-fringed beaches of Zanzibar, is one of the absolute must-visit destinations for adventure-hungry travellers. With so many incredible things to see and do in Tanzania, we’ve cobbled together a list of unmissable highlights. Relish the wild spirit of Africa’s number-one holiday destination! Witness the great migration Photo credit: Alex Berger Known to be one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth, the great migration draws safari enthusiasts and animal lovers from all corners of the world. During this annual occurrence, millions of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle migrate from Kenya into Tanzania in search of fresh grasslands and water. To see the dramatic river crossings, you should head to Tanzania’s far west between July and August. If you want to witness the calving season, you should aim for the three-month period from December to March. Conquer Africa’s tallest peak: Mt Kilimanjaro Photo credit: Job de Graff  Standing tall (and magnificent) at 5895 meters, mountain Kilimanjaro is the highest point in Africa, and one of the most popular attractions in Tanzania. It’s pretty busy, but well worth a visit for the incredible landscape views, rare trees, animals and plants that surround the wonderful mountain. The best time to hike Kilimanjaro is during the dry season – from July to October. Ocean-blue skies and a very low likelihood of rain are the perfect conditions to soak in the views of the surrounding region. However, climbers are discouraged from trying to conquer the mountain during the rainy season – from April to June, when rain, fog, mud and ice are rather common. Don’t forget to try the Kilimanjaro beer, which is one of the national beers of Tanzania! Stroll the Stone Town streets in the spice island Zanzibar Photo credit: Drouyn Cambridge  Many say that a visit to Stone Town is a start of a life-long love affair. Once a flourishing spice and slave trading hub, Stone Town has retained its urban fabric and unique architecture that manifests the influences of African, Arabic, European, Persian, and Indian cultures. Defined by its maze of narrow streets and secret alleyways, it’s a city that needs to be explored and enjoyed on foot. When in Stone Town, be sure to experience a sunset dhow cruise. Dhows are traditional wooden sailing vessels that were used by Arab traders. These days, they are admittedly a bit of a tourist trap, but still one of the best ways to take in the Zanzibar sunset! The best time to visit the island of Zanzibar is from June to October. August and September offer amazing snorkelling conditions! Where to stay? Take a look at our collection of the most interesting, unique places to stay at when visiting Tanzania. From an unconventional and truly stunning safari lodge to a luxurious and relaxing house situated in a first-class spot for watching the wildebeests stomp past on their annual migration, you are bound to find a top-of-the-range destination to spend your holiday in ultimate style and satisfaction!
